Pilgrim’s way

Friday 15th May, 2026 – 10.15 a.m.

Pilgrim’s way

This walk explores a fascinating local section of the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way, following ancient paths and quiet lanes through farmland that has been walked for centuries. Starting at Tal-y-Cafn, the route heads gently towards Rowen, with a pause at the 19th-century Seion Chapel. From there the walk becomes more challenging, climbing the steep ‘Coffin Path’ to the remote church of St Celynnin and its sixth-century holy well, rewarding you with fine views across the Conwy Valley.

A walk rich in history, landscape and atmosphere, led by Trefriw resident Rev Eryl Parry, who featured in the BBC’s 2024 Pilgrimage programme at Llangelynnin.

This walk has some steep and uneven paths and tracks which may be wet and slippery underfoot. There may be longer periods of ascent, and you may find poles useful.  Please dress for the weather and have suitable footwear.

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  5 Miles / 8 km

Grade: Moderate

Departure time: 10.15 a.m. from Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)

Friday 15th May, 2026 – 09.00 a.m.

A walk out from Trefriw and back.

From Trefriw we’ll walk up to the scenic lake of Llyn Parc (between Trefriw and Betws y coed).

Having initially walked over to the area above Gwydir Castle, from there we’ll follow the path overlooking the scenic Conwy valley, up to Llyn Parc. We’ll walk along the lakeside (the lake is 2/3 of a mile long), then we’ll head back to Trefriw through some of the most scenic parts of the Gwydir Forest, including a couple more lovely lakes.

Before we reach Trefriw we’ll be passing Llanrhychwyn Church, one of the oldest in Wales. It was originally established in the 6th century, and the oldest part dates from the late 11th century.

Expect pretty paths and good views throughout.

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  10 Miles / 16 km

Elsi in the Woods

Friday 15th May, 2026 – 8.45 a.m.

Elsi in the Woods

Tryfan’s rocky North Ridge is an iconic grade 1 scramble and is one of the most popular routes in the UK.

Tryfan or Tri faen –  3 rocks – stands proud above the Ogwen Valley. At 918m it is one of the fourteen 3,000 ft peaks in Wales.

We will be scrambling up from the valley floor – in the footsteps of mountaineers George Mallory and Sir Edmond Hilary, of Everest fame – to its summit which is crowned by two fabled standing stones, Sion a Sian or Adam and Eve.

We will have an early start to avoid the crowds and enjoy a well earned lunch break high above the Ogwen Valley, returning via the South Summit and Llyn Bochlwyd.

There will be some steep, rocky and exposed sections so a steady head for heights will be required. This scramble is for fit and experienced walkers only.

Remember that it will be much colder on the tops, even in May.  Please ensure that you have good, warm, waterproof clothing, including hat and gloves, and suitable sturdy boots (no trainers).

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  3 Miles / 4.5km

Grade:        Moderate

Car share out and back to Pentre Du.

Departure time:  08.45 a.m. from Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
Note : This walk will use Car Share to access the start of the walk.
Please make sure you register at the village hall above first.

Refreshments will be available in the Hall both before and after your walk. (See ‘our cafe’.)  Please stay and socialise!

Scramble

Friday 15th May, 2026 – 08.15 a.m.

This an exhilarating grade 1 scramble in the Glyderau. We set off from Ogwen Cottage and head up to Llyn Idwal. From there we make our way up Senior’s Gully and Senior’s Ridge. Once the ridge is cleared we summit Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach, taking in Castell Y Gwynt and the iconic Cantilever Stone — a must for those brave enough to capture a truly memorable photo.
We then descend down through Bwlch Tryfan past lonely Llyn Bochlwyd and back to Ogwen Cottage.

If there is poor weather Devil’s Kitchen and Y Garn is the back-up plan

This scramble is for fit and experienced walkers only. There will be some steep, rocky and exposed sections so a steady head for heights is needed.
