Quarrymen’s Quest
Retracing the steps of three men who, on January 9th, 1865, set off from Bethesda to walk to the Cwm Eigiau quarry. Walking across the high Carneddau in the depths of winter can easily be fatal……
This walk retraces the route the men intended, across the wild and unforgiving terrain of the high Carneddau, with bleak fractured summits providing sweeping panoramas of the Eryri coast and mountains.
Duration: All day. Bring a packed lunch.
Distance: 10 Miles / 16 km approximately
Grade: Strenuous
A long walk with a lot of ascent and descent; involves some continuous mountain terrain walking on less defined paths. The Carneddau are often boggy underfoot at this time of year.
Departure time: 08:00 a.m. from Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
Minibus Out to Bethesda and back from Eigiau car park
Refreshments will be available in the Hall after your walk. (See ‘our cafe’.) Please stay and socialise!
