A Loop through Time
Dolgarrog to Pen y Gaer Iron Age Hill Fort Tickets: £12
We begin at Dolgarrog’s Dam Disaster Monument and ascend the western flank of the Conwy Valley following seldom-used paths, ancient trackways and quiet lanes. Along the way we’ll uncover how the landscape, wildlife and land use have evolved over the centuries.
The high point is the well-preserved Iron Age hillfort of Pen y Gaer (385m), which also contains Bronze Age burial mounds within its huge walls.
From the summit there are fine views of the Carneddau, the Conwy Valley and beyond. We return along upland terrain, then descend through the ancient woodland of Coed Dolgarrog back to the our vehicles. A walk of history, varied scenery and good views.
