A Tomb with a View
Venturing across the Conwy Valley, we will rise nearly 1,000 ft above Betws-y-coed to Moel Trefriw, one of the furthest vantage points from which to see Trefriw. The walk, with its elevated location, will give splendid views over the northern Snowdonia mountains.
We’ll then descend via the famous Neolithic burial chamber at Capel Garmon. Tombs of this type belong to an archaeological grouping called ‘Cotswold-Severn’, after the area in which they are generally found, so its unusual position so far north remains a mystery.
Duration: All day. Please bring a packed lunch.
Distance: 7 miles / 11 km
Grade: Moderate, with some 300m (1,000 ft) of ascent.
It is a steep ascent at the beginning but thereafter moderate. There are some streams and the odd boggy bits to cross, so good footwear is essential. There may be cattle in some fields.
