Overnight Camp (bed in a barn) – a two-day walk – 2020

Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th May, 2020

Overnight Camp (bed in a barn) – a two-day walk

This is a two-part, two-day walk. This is the third year we’ve done a two-day walk, and what we love is the social element and bonding which develops over this longer period. But this year we’re doing something different – instead of coming back to Trefriw at the end of the first day, we’ll be overnighting in a bunkbarn!

On the first day we’ll walk from Trefriw over to Capel Curig (stopping at Plas y Brenin for a drink, if people fancy it), then on to the far end of the Dyffryn Mymbyr lakes, a location famed for its gorgeous views of the Snowdon Horseshoe.

We’ll then overnight there in Garth Farm bunkbarn. The barn is fairly simple, with cooking facilities and seating/dining area for 12. Sleeping is in a single mixed dormitory with comfy mattresses.  (Note – You’re welcome to bring your own tent to sleep in, if you’d prefer; we’ll transport it for you.)

On the second day we’ll return to Trefriw by an altogether different route, in time for our now-legendary Cake Fest at 4 p.m.!

Both days should reward you with good views if the clouds are high.

Food, Drink and Accommodation:  On Saturday night you’re welcome to bring your own food, or for a small contribution be treated to a simple meal prepared by your walk leaders. (Dietary requirements can be catered for; once you’ve signed up for the walk, we’ll make contact with you nearer the time to find out your preferences, but in the meantime, if you have any queries don’t hesitate to contact us.)

Tea and coffee will be provided while we’re at the bunkbarn. Please bring any other drinks (soft or otherwise!) for the evening and during the walk, your breakfast and packed lunches for both days.

You’ll also need to bring a sleeping bag.

Organisation:  You will only need to walk with a day sack. Items like sleeping bags, additional food/drink for evening meal/breakfast, clothing, etc. can be left safely with us at the Village Hall and we’ll transport it to the bunkbarn ready for your arrival. Similarly, on the Sunday we will bring back anything you don’t wish to carry in your day sack.

Please note:  By making a booking you are committing to attend on both days. You only need book the once.  Also, this walk involves a £12 fee to cover the cost of the bunkbarn; this will be payable prior to departure on the Saturday (card or cash).

Duration:  Two full days.

Distance:   About 9.5 miles (15 km)  +  9.5 miles (15 km)

Grade:   Moderate

Meet:  Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
Tea and cake will be available in the Hall both before and after your walk.

Walk Leaders:  Brian Watson and Liz Burnside
