Wings over Trefriw – 23

Sunday 21st May, 2023

Wings over Trefriw

This is a superb chance to walk with Jack Slattery from RSPB Cymru, who will be leading the group through the woods above Trefriw, up to the moors of Cefn Cyfarwydd, the ridge immediately behind the village.

In the woods we should find pied flycatchers, wood warblers, redstarts and tree pipits – all really special birds found in Welsh woodlands. Up on the moors we’ll hope to see hen harriers and red grouse. And no doubt we’ll see plenty more besides!

The walk will take us up to 500m high at its highest point (on the ridge); it’s essentially uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back, but the pace will be leisurely, and – birdlife aside – you’ll be rewarded with great views.

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  6½ miles (10½ km)

Grade:  Moderate, with some steeper sections. Please wear good footwear (there might be a couple of boggy sections), and bear in mind that it can be chilly on the tops, even in May.

Departure time:  10:40 a.m. from Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
Refreshments will be available in the Hall both before and after your walk. (See ‘our cafe’.)  Please stay and socialise!

Walk Leaders:  Jack Slattery & Lin Cummins
