Llywelyn Legends
2017 is the Year of Legends in Wales.
From Trefriw we will walk up the steep lane to Llanrhychwyn Church (variously reputed to be the oldest and tiniest in Wales), just as Llywelyn and Joan, his wife, had to do before he built the church in Trefriw for her – you’ll appreciate why he did that! We return along a different scenic path down through Cwmannog woods, to finish with a visit to St Mary’s Church in Trefriw (‘Llywelyn’s Church’), with its stained-glass window of Llywelyn and Joan.
The two churches of Trefriw and Llanrhychwyn are part of the Rural Conwy Sacred Doors Trail.
We will be joined by professional storyteller Fiona Collins (author of ‘Folktales of North Wales for Children‘ and other similar titles) who will be storytelling about Llywelyn.
This event is aimed at families (children should be 8+).
Duration: 3 hours. Please bring a packed lunch.
Distance: 5.5 km / 3.5 miles
Grade: Easy/moderate (but Llanrhychwyn hill is steep!)
Meet: 11.15 a.m. at Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
Walk Leaders: Mike Raine, from Plas y Brenin
and Pam Boyd
