Backpack and Paddle – 2019

Backpack and Paddle

A walk with a difference!  We’ll be doing some good walking between Trefriw and Llyn Parc (in the Gwydir Forest), and also an exciting two-hour packrafting session.  Packrafting is where you carry your light raft with you, then inflate it when you get to the water. The two hours includes the walk to the lake from Hafna Mine, so we should have a good hour on the water. Life jackets will be provided.

There will be two groups of up to 8 people:

  •  The first group will go by our minibus to Hafna Mine in the Gwydir Forest, where they will meet the Tirio staff.  We will then walk up to Llyn Parc (a mile) for the packrafting session. Afterwards we will walk back to Hafna Mine for lunch (with the other group), then back to Trefriw (5 miles).
  • The second group will walk from Trefriw to Hafna Mine (5 miles). After lunch (with the other group) we will walk on up to Llyn Parc (a mile) with the Tirio staff for the packrafting session, then return to Hafna Mine to catch our minibus back to Trefriw.

Please note that we must ask for a minimum payment of £10 from participants on this walk, as we have hired in the packrafting activity (at considerable discount – thank you, Tirio).

If you are planning on booking for this activity (using the normal button below), it is important that you also read the relevant parts of Tirio’s Terms & Conditions and Tirio’s Booking Information. The Tirio staff will ask you to sign a copy of these before you engage in the packrafting session.

In addition to your normal walking gear, Tirio advise that you bring a waterproof top and bottom, a lightweight pair of water shoes – e.g neoprene shoes or something you don’t mind getting wet, such as an old pair of trainers – a warm extra layer and a lightweight change of clothes.

(We advise a day sack of about 40 litres so that you can fit in your inflatable. You will be able to leave gear in Tirio’s locked cars at Hafna, if you wish.)
