A slow circular walk with plenty of stops to admire the array of Spring flowers, wildlife and the views from Coed Creigiau, (the part of the GwydirForest north of the Crafnant Valley and Trefriw Cemetery.

There will be some steep uphill and downhill sections which can be slippery.

Duration: 3 hours

Distance: 6km / 4miles

In the Footsteps of the Drovers

Join a Snowdonia National Park Warden for a walk among the mountains from Capel Curig to Trefriw, in the footsteps of the drovers who would have followed the old road along this route. An excellent opportunity to hear the stories of the drovers and    discover more about the wildlife and history of the area.

On return we will be able to join the Cake Fest in the Village Hall.

Duration: 4-5 hours

Distance: 10km / 6 miles

Wild Swimming Taster Walk – 2014

Sunday 18th May

Wild Swimming Taster Walk

The walk will leave from Trefriw, and climb up towards Llyn Geirionydd.  The steep climb through the forest should have us working up a good sweat – and make us look forward to a lovely refreshing dip in the lake.

Upon reaching the lake, you can change (discreetly, using the Robie Robes provided) into your swimwear (or wetsuit, provided), and load up your waterproof bag (also provided).  You will then slip into the calm waters of the lake and swim as much or as little as you like. The swim is part of the journey and at journeys end you will be met with the Gone Swimming traditional hot drinks and post-swim cakes .

You must be able to swim confidently but speed and distance is variable.

Please bring warm clothes including hat and gloves. Flip-flops/Crocs are useful for managing stony ground.

Duration: 2 – 3 hours

Distance: 2km / 1.5mile walk, swimming distance optional (less than 1km / 1mile)

Morning session:  Meet at 8.45am, for a 9.00am start, Village Hall, Trefriw

Afternoon session: Meet at 12.45pm for a 1.00pm start, Village Hall, Trefriw

Transport is provided back to the Trefriw Village Hall from Llyn Geirionydd.

Under the Gaze of the Witch – 2014

Under the Gaze of the Witch

From the meeting point we will catch buses (pass or fare payable) to the start of this walk at Capel Curig. From here we ascend open moorland above the Ogwen Valley to Llyn Cowlyd, returning to Trefriw via Pen y Craig Gron and the Crafnant Valley.

There are some good views from this walk of the northern Snowdonia ranges.

Sorry No Dogs. Good boots are essential and gaiters are recommended

Duration: 6.5 – 7.5 hours (including travelling time of 1 hour) – Return to Trefriw will be between 3.00pm and 4.00pm

Distance: 14km/8m.  370m / 1200ft of ascent

We will follow some mountain paths which will include some steep, rough ground.

If the weather is clear we can enjoy extensive views across the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia.

This is a walk for Welsh learners. It gives everyone a chance to practice what they’ve learnt as they walk along the banks of the Rivers Crafnant and Conwy and then visit the historic Church of St Mary, where we discover tales of the Princes of Gwynedd.

Introduction to Geocaching for all

The aim of the walk is to introduce new-comers to the sport of Geocaching. Those attending will be given a brief talk which will explain how the sport emerged and what happens when you go Geocaching.

We will then head off to investigate some local caches.  We will locate these by means of pre-programmed GPS units, which the leader will provide. We will also be using maps and solving the puzzles.

We will start the walk with fairly easy caches on flat land, progressing to more difficult caches as we go.

Program will be adapted to suit the abilities and fitness levels of the group.

This will be ideal for all, not so much a walk as a treasure hunt!

A gentle stroll along Gowers Road to the Suspension bridge over the River Conwy and return enjoying views of the Conwy Valley and surrounding hills.

This walk is a great way to try out walking for the first time, or just come along and meet new people.

Discovering the Past on the Hills above Trefriw – 2014

Discovering the Past on the Hills above Trefriw
This walk will follow woodland and upland paths to historical sites on the hills above Trefriw.  It will include Tyddyn Wilym the birthplace of the bard Gwilym Cowlyd; a deserted Chapel; the remains of the Medieval village of Ardda; an abandoned Sulphur mine; and a working farm water wheel. On a fine day there are stunning views of the Conwy Valley and Snowdonia.

Some steep paths and uneven ground. Please bring a packed lunch, walking boots and waterproofs.

Duration: 6 hours

A Woodland Dog Walk Bring your dog (on a lead) and together explore the upland tracks of Coed Creigiau in the company of a Forestry Ranger. The woods rise sharply out of Trefriw so some paths are steep. Lovely views of lakes and mountains at the top.

Lost and Found – a Map Reading and Navigation Workshop

The content of these workshops will be determined by the needs of the participants.  If you would like to join us, talk over what you would like to do with the Walk Leader so that you can be allocated to one or other (or both!) of the workshops.  Topics to be covered could include route planning, basic map reading, grid references, contour interpretation, use of the compass, pacing and timing.

The sessions will begin with a short presentation on the topics chosen, followed by a walk of 3-5km (2-3miles) in the Trefriw area to put theory into practice.

Duration: Workshop 4 hours  (including 2 hour walk)

Dams and Turbines, a Bothy by the Black Lake and …. the voices of DULYN! – 2014

DAMS, TURBINES, a Bothy by the Black Lake and … The Voices of DULYN!

This mountain walk on part of the “high Carneddau” will take us past the sight of a dam that was breached, turbines that feed the national electricity grid, and a rugged marsh that leads to the “black lake” Llyn Dulyn.

Magically we find a cute highland bothy where we will stop for lunch (please bring food and drink), and then clamber near the lake edge and up a steep miner’s path. Here we find yet another mysterious lake Melynllyn and so gaze across its majestic waters below Carnedd Llewellyn and Foel Grach. We then meet the broad path that leads us to our starting point with tantalising views of Pen Llithrig y Wrach – a truly magical Snowdonia Classic Adventure.

Mountain walking clothes and boots essential.

Trefriw Historical Trail – 2014

Trefriw  Historical Trail 

Two members of the local Historical Society will guide us through the history of Trefriw from its early connections with Llewelyn the Great and his wife Joan, to its heyday serving the wealthy Victorians who steamed up the Conwy to Trefriw to sample the waters of its Roman Spa and to socialise at the Belle Vue Hotel.

Optional extended walk of 2.5km / 1.5 miles to visit Gowers Bridge with splendid views over the Conwy Valley.

Duration: 2 hours (3 hours including extension)

Distance: 3km/2miles (5.5km / 3.5 miles including extension)
