Crimpiau

Sunday 17th May, 2020

Crimpiau

Crimpiau, (pronounced locally ‘Crimp – ee – a’, and meaning hard sharp edge; ridge, spur; ledge), is located between Capel Curig and Llyn Crafnant and is a stunning viewpoint despite being only 475m (1558′) high. Photographer Nick Livesey writes in his book ‘Photographing the Snowdonia Mountains’, “Being little more than a minor incident on a long knobbly ridge, lowly Crimpiau harbours a secret that few would suspect from below”.

We’ll be taking the minibus to Capel Curig, then taking a scenic walk back to Trefriw, making a small detout to ascend Crimpiau. And Crimpiau aside, it’s a great walk with lovely views from start to finish.

We’ll be back in time for our now-legendary Cake Fest at 4 p.m.!

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  about 9 miles / 14 km

Grade:  Moderate, but leisurely

Meet:  xxxx a.m. at Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)

Two Lakes Loop

Sunday 17th May, 2020

Lakes and Cakes

Join us for the walk that attracts many visitors to Trefriw – the classic round of Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd. From Trefriw we ascend past the Fairy Falls and onto the edge of Gwydir Forest. Gwydir Forest was mentioned in written texts at least 500 years ago, and we’ll certainly witness some of its history, passing old mine works, the infamous Klondyke mill and the monument to the bard, Taliesin.

The views at both lakes are great.  After completing our loop of the two lakes we’ll head back to the Trefriw, and if the seasons are kind to us, we’ll take in the vast and stunning field of bluebells as we return to the village.

We’ll be back in time for our now-legendary Cake Fest at 4 p.m.!

Duration:  All day.  Please bring a packed lunch.

Distance:  about 6.5 miles / 10.5 km

Grade:  Moderate, but leisurely

Meet:  xx.xx a.m. at Trefriw Village Hall (LL27 0JH, SH781631)
